Canadian automotive company Martinrea announced the expansion of its operations in Queretaro through a US$155 million investment project to be carried out over a three-year period (2021-2023).

The expansion of its plant will focus on the production of aluminum-based automotive parts: engine blocks, suspension bridges and transmission housings.

In 2022, they plan to produce 2 million units at this plant, which will be implemented in the BMW, Honda, Ford and other brands.

Juan Pedro Santos Ortiz, Vice-President of Operations of Martinrea’s aluminum division, explained that the expansion corresponds to the company’s growth expectations, in addition to being a step forward to meet the transformation that the industry is undergoing.

The investment contemplates the incorporation of 668 jobs, which represents an increase of 70% in relation to the previous workforce (953), estimating to reach 1,621 jobs in the state.

The effects of the pandemic, the rising cost of inputs and the disruption in supply chains, said the businessman, have impacted the automotive industry, disrupting the firm’s operations in the state; however, it maintains growth projects, and has been able to overcome these challenges.

Its commitment to Queretaro also includes increasing the use of aluminum, since it will apply its own technology developed for aluminum casting in both low and high pressure, whose parts will be used in combustion cars and electric vehicles.
