YAHOO NEWS<\/b><\/a><\/p>\nEquinix, Inc.\u00a0(EQIX), the global\u00a0interconnection\u00a0and data center company, today announced it has entered into an agreement with Axtel S.A.B. de C.V.\u00a0(AXTELCPO.MX) to acquire three data centers that serve the\u00a0Mexico City<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Monterrey<\/span>\u00a0metro areas of\u00a0Mexico<\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0US$175 million<\/span>\u00a0in an all-cash transaction. The three facilities generated approximately\u00a0$21 million<\/span>\u00a0of revenues in the 12 months ending\u00a0December 31, 2018<\/span>, with an EBITDA margin profile accretive to the Equinix business. The acquisition is expected to close in Q1 2020, subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approval.<\/p>\nThe addition of these three facilities in two strategic technology metros in\u00a0Mexico<\/span>\u00a0is part of Equinix’s strategy of extending its global leadership into attractive large-growth markets. This acquisition, when combined with the previous acquisitions of key traffic hubs in\u00a0Dallas<\/span>\u00a0(Infomart) and\u00a0Miami<\/span>\u00a0(NAP of the Americas), will further strengthen Equinix’s global platform by increasing interconnection between North, Central and\u00a0South America<\/span>.<\/p>\nThe three data centers will add approximately 115,000 square feet of colocation space to the Equinix International Business Exchange\u2122 (IBX\u00ae<\/sup>) data center portfolio. Given the power capacity of these three sites, this transaction will make Equinix one of the largest network-neutral data center operators in\u00a0Mexico<\/span>. Including current expansion projects, Equinix has invested more than\u00a0$500 million<\/span>\u00a0in its Latin American operations including\u00a0Brazil<\/span>,\u00a0Colombia<\/span>\u00a0and now\u00a0Mexico<\/span>.<\/p>\nThe expansion will support the important role Equinix plays in helping companies evolve from traditional businesses to digital businesses by globally interconnecting the people, locations, cloud services and data that are critical to their operations. Current and future customers will have the opportunity to operate on an expanded global interconnection platform to process, store and distribute larger volumes of latency-sensitive data and applications at the digital edge, closer to end-users and local markets.<\/p>\n
Key Facts<\/b><\/p>\n\n- Mexico<\/span>\u00a0is the world’s eleventh-largest economy and the second largest in\u00a0Latin America<\/span>1<\/sup>. The country’s telecommunications reform of 2013 has created opportunities for many businesses seeking to expand into\u00a0Mexico<\/span>, allowing for open competition by non-governmental entities and providing an opportunity for the growth of service provider and enterprise ecosystems that flourish within Equinix’s network-neutral data centers globally. As a result, Equinix believes there is uncaptured market demand in the region for interconnection and data center services if bandwidth requirements and end-user demand continue to increase as expected.<\/li>\n
- The two data centers that serve the\u00a0Mexico City<\/span>\u00a0metro are strategically located in Quer\u00e9taro. Both are carrier-neutral facilities with multiple diverse fiber entry points that include five network service providers currently operating within each data center.<\/li>\n
- The\u00a0Monterrey<\/span>\u00a0area facility is a highly connected data center offering a key connectivity gateway between the U.S. and\u00a0Mexico<\/span>. It features 25,000 gross square feet of data center space with 12,500 square feet of colocation space. It is a carrier-neutral facility with 10 network service providers.<\/li>\n
- Equinix plans to offer Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric\u2122 (ECX Fabric\u2122) in all three data centers. ECX Fabric is an on-demand, SDN-enabled interconnection service that allows any business to connect between its own distributed infrastructure and any other company’s distributed infrastructure, including the world’s largest network service and cloud providers, on Platform Equinix.<\/li>\n
