But while we already knew that the Hermosillo Plant had recently reopened, we hadn’t yet heard anything about the remaining Ford Mexico plants, until now. The automaker confirmed on Monday that it had reopened all four of its Ford Mexico plants, albeit on a limited basis.

“The safety of our workforce is our top priority,” commented Ford spokesman Said Deep. “Working closely with government, suppliers and union leaders, Ford Mexico is gradually resuming operations and production under the strictest protocols to keep our employees healthy and safe. We have resumed operations at our four sites.”

The four Ford Mexico plants including the following:

Cuautitlan Stamping Plant

Cuautitlan Assembly Plant

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Hermosillo Stamping Plant

Hermosillo Assembly Plant

Ford Fusion

Lincoln MKZ

Ford Bronco Sport

The automaker didn’t mention exactly when it reopened these facilities, nor what sort of capacity they would be running. Previously, it was reported that Ford was targeting a May 18th reopening date for its Mexico facilities, but that was contingent on a government plan that loosened coronavirus restrictions and deemed automakers as essential businesses so plants could reopen.

Ford Mexico plants produced models like the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, along with the forthcoming Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E. But the automaker also relies on them for the production of parts that are used to produce vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, some engines that are produced in the U.S. are shipped to Mexico for use in vehicles produced there.

The Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant has already produced 100 Bronco Sport models for use in crash testing, quality control, and fuel economy and emissions testing, as Ford Authority exclusively reported. Full-scale production is expected to begin in early September.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on Ford’s production activities and will report back when we have more, so be sure to subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford-related COVID-19 news, Ford production news, as well as ongoing Ford news coverage.

Breet Froote.
